Chattanooga Foot & Ankle Clinic, proudly recognizes Maria Pacheco, DPM, for passing the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery’s (ABFAS) certification exam in Foot and RRA Surgery. Dr. Pacheco joins a community of more than 7,000 foot and ankle surgeons upholding the highest standards in surgery with a commitment to protect the public health, by continually improving the care they deliver, ongoing participation in assessments and training beyond what is required of their peers, and consistently delivering high-quality care to patients. Achieving initial certification means that Maria Pacheco, DPM, has demonstrated—to their peers and to the public—that they have the clinical judgment, surgical skills, and ability essential for providing excellent patient care. In a recent public survey, patients rated Board Certification as the most important criterion in choosing a foot and ankle surgeon. The certifying board, the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS), strives to protect and improve the health and welfare of the public by advancing the art and science of foot and ankle surgery. To accomplish this goal, ABFAS grants certification status to candidates who have successfully met the guidelines for demonstrating competency and proficiency in the art and science of foot and ankle surgery.
Since its founding in 1975, ABFAS Board Certification remains the only foot and ankle surgical board recognized by the Joint Committee on the Recognition of Specialty Boards (JCRSB). JCRSB
is part of the Council on Podiatric Medical Education (CPME) under the authority of the
American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA).
